SAFSA has begun a process to address better communication and transparency. To guide us effectively, we are asking what communication you would like to receive, and in what format, to enhance your overall experience in our sport.

While you may still complete the survey anonymously, we kindly request that you provide your details this time. Because this questionnaire focuses on your needs and suggestions, we may need to follow up should we require clarity or further input.

We hope you find this a meaningful opportunity to help move South African figure skating forward in a positive, engaging, and rewarding direction for all.

Please complete the online form by 31 December 2025. After the submission deadline, we will share the findings with our membership. SAFSA will then begin addressing the most frequently raised requests, along with similar themes and “quick wins” that can be implemented early. These actions will form the basis of a broader plan to improve communication and member engagement.

Our long-term vision is a fully functional website with up-to-date information, supported by a mobile app that delivers timely notifications directly to your devices.

Shirene Human

The South African Figure Skating Association (SAFSA) mourns the passing of Shirene Human, South Africa’s last female figure skater to represent our nation at the Olympic Games.

Shirene was a trailblazer who carried the South African flag with grace, strength, and pride on the world stage. As a nine-time national champion, competing at six World Championships and seven Four Continent Championships, and our representative at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, she inspired generations of young skaters to dream beyond the rink and believe in what is possible through dedication and perseverance.

Her contribution to the sport extended far beyond her competitive years. Shirene’s passion, elegance, and spirit remain woven into the fabric of South African figure skating. She will be remembered not only for her achievements but also for the quiet determination and dignity with which she represented her country.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her remarkable journey.
May her legacy continue to inspire every young skater who steps onto the ice.
