Athlete Representatives 2026/2027
Kathryn Winstanley
National Athlete Representative
Kathryn Winstanley was appointed SAFSA’s National Athlete Representative in 2025, representing skaters from across South Africa on the SAFSA Council. A key focus of her role is building a strong Athletes Commission that can give skaters a meaningful voice and provide a lasting structure for athlete representation within the sport.
Kathryn began skating at the age of three and went on to become National Champion in 2018, 2019 and 2021. She has represented South Africa internationally at Junior Grand Prix events and in ISU Challenger Series competitions, giving her first-hand experience of competing at a high level.
She has also recently become involved with the SASCOC Athletes Commission.
As National Athlete Representative, Kathryn wants skaters’ experiences and concerns to be heard at national level while helping establish a structure that will continue to serve athletes in the years ahead.
Gian Isaacs
Provincial Athlete Representative, Western Province
Gian Isaacs is a Protea athlete, senior figure skater and National Champion who has represented South Africa in international competition. Her experience competing at the highest level has given her first-hand insight into both the opportunities available to athletes and the challenges they face as they progress in the sport.
As Western Province Athlete Representative, Gian wants athletes to have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect their experience in figure skating. She is committed to supporting athlete welfare and fair representation, while encouraging an environment in which skaters feel included, protected and able to raise concerns.
She also hopes to help create greater opportunities for the next generation of South African skaters. For Gian, the representative role is an extension of her own experience as an athlete and an opportunity to contribute to a sport she wants to leave stronger for those who follow.
Tianelle Pieterse
Provincial Athlete Representative, KwaZulu-Natal
Tianelle Pieterse is a 19-year-old figure skater and the Provincial Athlete Representative for KwaZulu-Natal. Figure skating is an important part of her life, and she enjoys challenging herself both on and off the ice.
Tianelle enjoys working with people and sees the representative role as an opportunity to become more involved in the skating community. She brings a willingness to listen, learn and engage with other athletes as she takes on the responsibility of representing skaters in her province.
Away from skating, Tianelle enjoys staying active and taking on creative projects. She is also exploring her future career options and developing new skills as she considers the direction she would like to pursue.
As an athlete representative, she looks forward to connecting with KZN skaters and contributing to their experience of the sport.
Justine Croker
Provincial Athlete Representative, Central Gauteng
Justine Croker has served as Central Gauteng’s Provincial Athlete Representative since 2025, focusing on helping skaters have fair and positive experiences in competition and ensuring they feel heard and supported within the province.
She has been skating since the age of six and brings both competitive and leadership experience to the role. Justine has competed nationally in Solo Skating and represented South Africa in ISU Synchronized Skating, earning her SAFSA colours and serving as team captain. She has also worked with developing skaters through the Teacher’s Assistant Programme since 2018.
Still an active competitor, Justine is currently training for Nationals in Solo Ice Dance. Away from skating, she recently completed her master’s degree in architecture.
As an athlete representative, she is particularly interested in encouraging open communication, constructive feedback and good sportsmanship. She hopes to contribute to a supportive, competitive environment in which athletes are treated with respect and can be confident that their experiences will be heard.
Hannelore Ahrens
Provincial Athlete Representative, Gauteng North
Hannelore Ahrens was appointed Provincial Athlete Representative for Gauteng North in 2026, bringing to the role the perspective of an active skater who has been part of the sport since she was around 11 years old.
She has competed at provincial, interprovincial and national levels, and has twice represented South Africa as part of Gauteng North’s synchronised skating team, Team Illusion, where she also served as vice-captain. She now focuses mainly on ice dance.
Away from the rink, Hannelore is a first-year Zoology student at the University of Pretoria. She balances her studies with her own training and coaching as a TAP.
As an athlete representative, Hannelore wants skaters in Gauteng North to feel comfortable approaching her when they need support or guidance. She looks forward to working with the other provincial representatives, the National Athlete Representative and SAFSA structures to help create an environment in which skaters can enjoy the sport and develop with confidence.
